Details: Short description Sherlock Holmes: the true story. Holmes murdered? Suicide? Or is he still alive and playing his game with us, his admirers? To find an answer to these questions, we need to get to know Holmes himself, the man behind the ingenious detective. And so, alongside Dr. Watson, we embark on his trail and get caught up in a complex maze with ever new twists... As is well known, Sherlock Holmes plunged to his death in the Swiss Reichenbach Falls on May 4, 1891, in a struggle with Professor Moriarty. However, the bodies of the two were never found. Shortly thereafter, Holmes' apartment at 221b Baker Street is ransacked and plundered at the behest of his brother Mycroft. All evidence of Sherlock's cocaine addiction is thus destroyed. Mycroft believes, or pretends to believe, that Sherlock's death was actually a suicide, with which he wanted to escape the destruction of his brain by the drug. But Watson refuses to believe this version. Instead, he begins his own investigation, which will lead him all over Europe. And gradually, the incredible story of Sherlock Holmes and his mysterious family unfolds before us. Luc Brunschwig's enigmatic text, following the example of Arthur Conan Doyle, and Cécil's magical illustrations make this graphic novel an eerie and repeatedly unsettling work of art. Press Reviews The first volume of this Sherlock Holmes story builds tension with great effect, a dense web of allusions and motifs that demands resolution. Cécil and Brunschwig succeed in the feat of making the detective, who is supposed to solve puzzles, himself the central puzzle. (DeutschlandRadio Kultur) Brunschwig manages in a beautiful and at the same time very stringent way to tell an exciting story full of twists that will delight Holmes fans and unbiased readers alike. A wonderful symbiosis of master detective and graphic novel. Also recommended for beginners in the subject and/or the genre. (Bücherstadt Blog) Cécil masterfully demonstrates his drawing skills. He draws in a very appealing style and beautifully works out the facial expressions of his characters, which he portrays very nuanced. Thanks to a good and exciting story as well as the excellent visual design, the first volume is a feast for Sherlock Holmes fans, but also recommended for all other crime enthusiasts. (Litermarkt.info) About the author and other contributors Luc Brunschwig, born in Belfort in 1967, studied advertising and marketing. Cécil, born in Dax in 1966, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bordeaux. He has worked as a journalist, graphic designer, and illustrator. Since 1990, his graphic novels have been published, earning him, among other awards, the comic prize of French booksellers. For him, too, the Holmes project is the biggest challenge so far.
