Details: The title says it all: Jamiri's eighth comic book, "Pornorama," released in early October by uni-edition, is all about getting down to business. But beware – he skillfully uses philosophical jabs to temper raw carnal desire. Jamiri exposes voyeurs as much as moralists – the latter in the form of uptight letter-to-the-editor writers. As the hero of his own stories, Jamiri moves between heaven (God occasionally confides in him) and hell (Department of Linguistic Offenses: subtle or sublime?). Mostly, however, he delves into various everyday phenomena with a large dose of self-irony and sarcasm. The fascination with high-tech leads him to despair in "Googled" while searching for a keyword and to triumph in "Latte Nokiato" over his milk-frothing cell phone. Alongside his real-life wife and muse, Beate, Jamiri has become a relationship expert: True love, for him, means looking in the same direction as his beloved – even if it's in front of the TV ("Exupéry"). Sometimes he portrays himself as a macho who only cleans the litter box under threat of sexual sanctions ("iMute"), sometimes as a man who understands women, listening to a group of ladies ("About Jürgen"). For close-quarters combat with the supposedly weaker sex, he sometimes arms himself with armored suits ("Spacejamiri"), which, however, do not protect against defeats while jogging ("Schwabbel ich"). "Pornorama" is a naturalistically drawn panorama of our society and all that is generally considered zeitgeist. Jamiri observes his contemporaries and himself with a dissecting gaze and develops witty picture stories from it. While his subtle humor encourages a smile or laugh upon first reading, the profundity of some stories only reveals itself upon a second or third look.
