Details: Short description The stories about the little hedgehog "Mecki" originated in a time characterized by the economic miracle and the associated prosperity. In addition to the economic boom, events from the world of sports, music, and fashion also significantly influenced this era. All these important cultural phenomena of the 1950s are repeatedly taken up in the Mecki stories, making "Mecki" a historical document of its time – with all the strengths and weaknesses of those years. About the author and other contributors Reinhold Escher was born in Hamburg in 1905 and died near Zurich in 1994. He was a German graphic artist and illustrator. In 1949, he was commissioned by Eduard Rhein, then editor-in-chief of the magazine HÖRZU, to design a mascot as a page filler: "Mecki" was born. This character quickly became extremely popular, and in 1952, Escher's and Rhein's first Mecki book, "Mecki im Schlaraffenland," was published, which was reissued as a reprint by Esslinger Verlag in 2007.
