Details: Short description The 1956 vintage offers a special reading pleasure for all fans of "Schrat". For example, the ever-tired fellow stands in front of the mirror with his entire collection of pajamas and doesn't know which one to put on: "Herringbone pattern? Not the right one! Spring meadow? Away with it! Tiger skin? Anything but that! Red and white striped? Too monotonous!" Mecki was ubiquitous in the 50s and 60s and is still considered the most famous German hedgehog today. (2015-09-29) About the author and other contributors Reinhold Escher was born in Hamburg in 1905 and died near Zurich in 1994. He was a German graphic artist and illustrator. In 1949, he received the commission from Eduard Rhein, then editor-in-chief of the magazine HÖRZU, to design a mascot as a page filler: "Mecki" was born. This character quickly became extremely popular, and in 1952, Escher's and Rhein's first Mecki book was published: "Mecki im Schlaraffenland" (Mecki in the Land of Plenty), which was reissued as a reprint by Esslinger Verlag in 2007.
