Details: Short description A correspondent for the biggest newspapers, Ernie Pike covers World War II from the Pacific to Europe, via North Africa and the Atlantic. He recounts the violence of the fighting, the living conditions of the soldiers, the absurdity and cruelty of the war. Always at the forefront of the conflict, without ever taking part in it, he witnesses the solidarity and heroism of the men who fight. Back cover This third volume offers a new collection of Ernie Pike's chronicles: nine, to be exact, in very diverse formats ranging from five pages to eighteen pages for the longest story, La patrouille. Two of these stories are previously unpublished in French: Le baptême du feu and La confession. This new volume of Ernie Pike benefits, like the two previous ones, from a coloring directed by Patrizia Zanotti, who was already the colorist for Pratt's work during the artist's lifetime. About the author and additional contributors Hector Oesterheld worked with Hugo Pratt during his Argentine period, notably on Ernie Pike, published in 1957. They developed the drawings and scripts together, which explains why it is so difficult to fairly distinguish between each other's work. Oesterheld then pursued his own career as a comic book author, without however achieving the success of Hugo Pratt. Hugo Pratt (1927-1995) is unanimously considered one of the greatest cartoonists in the world. His comic strips, graphic works, and watercolors are exhibited in the largest museums, from the Grand Palais to the Pinacothèque de Paris, not to mention the Vittoriano in Rome, Ca' Pesaro in Venice, Santa Maria della Scala in Siena. He himself defined his stories as "drawn literature." He is cited by authors and artists such as Tim Burton, Frank Miller, Woody Allen, Umberto Eco, Paolo Conte. He lived in Italy, Argentina, England, France, and Switzerland. A great traveler, he has practically crossed the rest of the world.
