For each of the twenty-six alphabetical word groups, he then chooses a first name beginning with the same letter, which is the name of the protagonist, and forms a cycle of tiny narratives from it. And then Line Hoven comes into play. From scratchboard, in which she exposes white under black, she scratches an illustration that has the appearance of a carefully crafted woodcut. In doing so, she ensures a continuation of the story's content. Because suddenly, Schmidt's protagonists have a face, a demeanor, a personality. (Das Magazin) About the author and other contributors Jochen Schmidt, born in Berlin in 1970, studied German and Romance languages at Humboldt University in Berlin. In 1999, he co-founded the Berlin reading stage Chaussee der Enthusiasten and has made a name for himself as a French translator and book author. Line Hoven, born in Bonn in 1977, studied Visual Communication after training as a stage and costume design assistant at the Staatstheater Kassel. In 2008, she completed her studies at the HAW Hamburg. Since then, she has lived in Hamburg as a comic artist and illustrator.
