Details: Short description Picture book artist Jens Thiele stages Conrad Ferdinand Meyer's famous ballad "Die Füße im Feuer" (The Feet in the Fire) with his expressive collages. From torn photos and colored paper scraps, he creates evocative images whose interplay of light and shadow and fragmentation do justice to the weighty subject matter and open up completely new avenues for interpreting the classic material. "Die Füße im Feuer" was published in 1882. A courier for the King of France seeks shelter and lodging in a castle during a storm. After a while, he recognizes that he is a guest of a Huguenot family and that he himself had once tortured the wife of his host to death in this very castle during an anti-Huguenot pogrom. And he knows that the nobleman and his children have recognized him. After a restless night, the nobleman wakes him and then lets him go on his way ... Press reviews Thiele achieves a challenging literary interpretation that once again proves the picture book to be an art form. (Die Furche Booklet) About the author and additional contributors Jens Thiele, born in Potsdam in 1944, studied Free Graphics and Art Pedagogy at the Braunschweig Art Academy and Art History in Göttingen, where he earned his doctorate. He worked, among others, at the Bergische Universität in Wuppertal before becoming a professor for Visual Media at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg and director of the research center for children's and youth literature there. In numerous reviews, he advocated for artistically significant picture books. Since 2009, he has been working as a freelance artist in his studio in Münster. Conrad Ferdinand Meyer, 1825-1898, is considered one of the most important German-speaking Swiss writers of the 19th century, alongside Gottfried Keller and Jeremias Gotthelf.
