Details: The Mendelssohns, an upper-class dynasty of bankers, artists, and scholars, shaped German cultural and economic history over five generations. The comic narrative by Berlin artist Elke R. Steiner is dedicated to the life stories of five "other Mendelssohns," whose fates were suppressed by their family and, in some cases, by posterity. Each "black sheep" of the famous clan represents one of the four family tree lines, originating from the six children of Moses Mendelssohn. The first volume, "The Other Mendelssohns – Dorothea Schlegel, Arnold Mendelssohn," based on an idea by Thomas Lackmann, was created in collaboration with the Jewish Cultural Days and the Jewish Adult Education Center Berlin (research: Dr. Ernst Siebel). The second volume will focus on the life story of Carl Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1838-1897).
