Details: Caatinga is the name of the rugged semi-desert of the Sertão in northeastern Brazil. It is the world of the Cangaceiros, those bandits who wreaked havoc there until the 1940s. 1930: Impoverished farmers struggle for their existence on their tiny plots of land. They also suffer from constant attacks by the police, army, or the private militias of the fazendeiros. Diamantino de Rocha and his brother Manoel are the only survivors of their family's annihilation by a powerful landowner. It's a long way to the capital – and in the Sertão, only the law of violence prevails. Diamantino joins the Cangaceiros, raids towns and villages, and becomes a killer himself to survive in this merciless world.
