But when a bloodthirsty monster begins terrorizing Vienna's city centre in early 2016, some of the few remaining active super-beings team up to stop the threat. CAPTAIN AUSTRIA Jr., son of the legendary leader of the "Viennese Guardians" Captain Austria, the superhumanly strong wrestler LADY HEUMARKT with her impenetrable skin, the legendary water creature DONAUWEIBCHEN and the mysterious BÜROKRAT face the seemingly insurmountable task. And they set out in search of the monster, old allies, and last but not least, answers. The crowdfunding-funded project "ASH – Austrian Superheroes" was the German-language comic surprise of 2016. Seemingly out of nowhere, a group of Austrian artists and writers created a European superhero universe, the Austrian part of which initially astonished, but increasingly enthusiastic, readers could get to know in its first completed four-part mini-series. The story already hints at heroes and supergroups in Germany and the countries of the former Eastern Bloc. While the series continues in 2017, these first four issues, including all side stories and variant covers, are now available from Cross Cult as a trade paperback and for electronic download. For newcomers and for the steadily growing number of "ASHies."
