Jan Michael Richter, also known as Jamiri, turns himself into a comic hero. In his comics, his everyday life provides the material for his self-reflective and ironic observations, which he transforms into distinctive images. There is no comparable comic author who argues so clearly, makes such intelligent points, realizes so daringly, and designs so wonderfully beautifully as Jamiri. It is simply masterful how he analyzes time, the world, and people and then incorporates them into his stories. With his digitally painted images, his artwork is at the interface between photography, computer graphics, and comics. His strips regularly appeared on Spiegel Online and in Unicum, among others. Jamiri - Memme Fatale album released at the end of October 2014 ISBN 978-3-935229-87-6 13 EURO hardcover 48 pages

About the Author and Other Contributors

JAMIRI - HIS WORK Jamiri, alias Jan-Michael Richter, was born in Hattingen in 1966. His artist name is an acronym of the first three syllables of his first and last names and is therefore by no means to be pronounced as "Dschamiri". He graduated from a Waldorf school in 1985, then studied German, philosophy, and comparative literature, but graduated in 1996 as a communication designer. His first comic strips appeared in the Bochum cultural magazine "bospect" in 1988. Today, he is a resident cartoonist at SPIEGEL ONLINE, has been publishing regularly in UNICUM for 16 years, and in various other magazines, including GALORE, the AOL magazine, and the communications of the German Mathematical Society. In 2003, CARICATURA in Kassel dedicated a major exhibition of his work to him. With more than 1.5 million readers per month (AWA), he is one of Germany's most widely read comic artists. He has eleven albums to his name. After a publishing odyssey that took him from Unicum, Eichborn, Carlsen, Klett, KonturBlau, and uni-edition, he has now decided on what he hopes will be a permanent publishing home: EDITION 52. (Note from the online editorial team: We, the publishers of EDITION52, hope and wish this for you and for us too!!) He lives and works as a comic author/illustrator, stage designer, and editor in Essen, is married, and tends to sleep until early afternoon. In contrast to the "early bird," he therefore likes to call himself a "late worm." The first new JAMIRI album in EDITION 52 was released in September 2009. Since then, nine more hardcover albums have already been released in EDITION 52... Some press reviews: Jamiri's life (or that of the fictional character who represents him) largely takes place in the Bermuda Triangle between the computer (=Internet), the living room armchair (=bed, carpet, couch) and the late-night shop opposite (=cafe, pub, petrol station, ATM). There are two types of jokes. The first category is about himself, that he is always quite drunk and totally over- or underpaid. In the second (and more interesting) category, he is the addicted internet nerd who goes along with all developments but doesn't quite know yet how to evaluate them or what good they are. He wrings some nice punchlines from this theme." Andreas Hartung – Uncle Sallys "With astute humor, Jamiri exposes the absurdities of everyday life. As the eternal protagonist of his own comic episodes, he fortunately does not lack the necessary portion of self-irony. [...] His own living world provides Jamiri with the material for his picture stories, in which he – even if only as a voice-over – is always present. Jamiri likes to satirize zeitgeist phenomena, but also himself. [...] In the Arsenicum album, Jamiri skillfully blends reality with fiction, lets philosophical torrents of words end abruptly in the mundane, and often places the punchline on the meta-level. For anyone who likes intelligent comics, the Arsenicum album is also i

EAN: 9783935229876

Languages: German

Binding: hardcover

Item Condition: New
