As often in his stories, they had a real historical background. The gang really existed, and apart from Emmett Dalton, who even left behind his memoirs after his death in 1937, his gang members lost their lives in a hail of bullets. In the Lucky Luke adventure \"The Outlaws\", Morris describes the Daltons as they really were. Ruthless and malicious. Tough nuts to crack, even for the great Western hero Lucky Luke.
